Welcome to ICE/ECE 2012!

Welcome to the first post from “Endocrinology in Florence 2012”, the official blog of the 15th International Congress of Endocrinology and 14th European Congress of Endocrinology!  We are delighted to be hosting this premier joint meeting and look forward to sharing lots of information with you on the Congress over the coming months on this blog.
ICE/ECE 2012 is taking place in the beautiful city of Florence, Italy on 5-9 May 2012.  For detailed information on the Congress, please visit our website: www.ice-ece2012.com.  The Congress promises to offer delegates an unrivalled opportunity to sample an outstanding programme of scientific sessions, whilst networking with their colleagues from across the globe.
The Programme Organising Committee have been hard at work to develop a challenging and stimulating line-up of sessions from world-renowned speakers, with topics to suit the research interests of every endocrinologist, whether that be clinical, translational and basic science. We offer you 11 plenary lectures, including the prestigious Geoffrey Harris Prize Lecture which will be given by Professor Jonathan Seckl.  You will also be able to sample from 32 Meet-the Expert sessions with topics ranging from “Clinical management in transgender sex hormone treatment” to “Goitre throughout the paediatric ages”; these sessions provide a unique opportunity to hear from leaders in the field about the latest treatment advances and really are an opportunity not to be missed!  Additionally, there will be 70 symposia with topics ranging from to “Novel insights into the regulation of puberty” to “Endocrinology and the Olympics: Will hormones help to win?”, a daily clinical debate and oral and poster presentation sessions.  The full scientific programme is available at: www.ice-ece2012.com/programme/prog.aspx
There will also be a number of pre-Congress courses including Proper Medical Writing and Thyroid Ultrasound, a variety of satellite symposia and the ever popular Young Active Researcher’s (YAR) Symposium. In addition, our nursing colleagues are not forgotten with dedicated Endocrine Nurses’ Symposia taking place.
However, the Congress will not be all work and no play.  We have also organised a varied social programme to complement the scientific programme and aid networking, including a Congress Concert at the Basilica di San Lorenzo!  Additionally, there are a number of pre- and post-congress tours available to explore Florence and the Tuscany region.
All together, ICE/ECE 2012 promises to be a conference not to be missed!  Now for the important dates for your diaries:
·        6 January 2012 – Abstract submission deadline
·        16 March 2012 – Early bird registration deadline
ESE members receive a substantially reduced registration rate compared to non-ESE members and, to help you get there, ESE also offers a range of Meeting and Travel Grants and a special reduced early bird registration rate for nurses of just €100.
